This perennial vine, native to southern China and Vietnam, regrows each year in early summer. The plant contains the anti-AIDS constituent trichosanthine. The kernel in the gourd is used as an expectorant. It is also used for treating skin conditions such as shingles. Needs a trellis or room to sprawl. Full Sun Perennial Hardy to zone 7.
