Description

Gravel Root. Traditionally the roots were used by the North American Indians and pioneers to induce sweating and as a valuable remedy for kidney problems particulary urinary gravel or kidney stones. This plant originates from the Eastern U.S The leaves are vanilla scented when crushed. It really makes a statement in the garden, reaching up to 10 feet in height with airy pinkish blooms, and the huge hollow stems when cut make great biomass for the compost pile. Beware that once planted the roots become so woody in a couple of years it is hard to dig up and remove so pick a good spot on the back border or fenceline for this amazing plant!! Very drought tolerant and easy to grow. Prefers full to partial sun. Perennial Hardy to zone 3-8
