Mountain Oregano

Thanks to Strictly Medicinals for providing seed of this stunning Monarda species! It can be found in the mountains of  North America, ranging from Manitoba to Texas, but it is most common in the Pacific Northwest, Rocky Mountains and American Southwest! A beautiful addition to the Monarda collection, this drought tolerant lower growing plant will flower at about a foot and a half with lovely whorls of light purple showy flowers! The foliage is quite aromatic and is used as a spice to cook with in the SW. The plant is attractive to pollinators and has been planted as a natural deterrent for Varroa Mites which can  infest Honey Bee hives. Medicinally, it has strong antiseptic, diruetic, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial properties. This beautiful perennial is very drought tolerant once established and will mature into a sprawling small shrub. Highly recommended addition to a sunny dry hillside, rock garden or any well drained sunny exposure. Hardy perennial Hardy to Zone 5
